Biography

Marca MP is a powerhouse of the Regional Mexican genre, renowned for a distinctive “regional urbano” sound that masterfully blends the traditions of banda, mariachi, and ranchera with a modern, minimalist edge. Formed in 2018 in Modesto, California, the group was founded by lead vocalist and primary songwriter Pedro “Chato” Vargas alongside a group of close high school friends. Unlike many of their contemporaries who rely on massive brass sections, Marca MP carved out a unique niche by utilizing a stripped-back arrangement of guitars and a solitary tuba, allowing Vargas’s evocative vocals to take center stage.
The group’s meteoric rise to international stardom was fueled by the 2019 viral hit “El Güero,” a collaboration with Grupo Firme that became the most-watched online video in Mexico that year. This breakthrough transformed them from local California musicians playing weddings and markets into global headliners. Their success is rooted in an incredibly prolific independent work ethic, characterized by the release of numerous digital-only live albums and singles that resonate deeply with a young, digital-first audience.
By 2026, Marca MP has solidified its status as an award-winning mainstay in the music industry. Their 2023 collaboration with Becky G, “Ya Acabó,” earned them a Latin American Music Award, and they have remained consistent fixtures at the Premio Lo Nuestro and Billboard Latin Music ceremonies. Following the success of their “Simplemente Marca” tour, the group continues to dominate the charts with recent projects like Lealtad and Historias Mal Contadas, showcasing Chato Vargas’s evolving songwriting and the band’s tight, signature instrumentation.
Today, the lineup—featuring Vargas on lead vocals, Omar Valdivia on guitar, Ernesto Franco on tuba, and Ismael Villano on tololoche—continues to bridge the gap between traditional Mexican heritage and contemporary urban culture. With billions of streams and sold-out arenas across the United States and Mexico, Marca MP remains one of the most influential voices in modern Mexican music, constantly pushing the boundaries of the genre while staying true to its acoustic roots.
